Mixing with EQ and the FL Studio Mixer

Demo summary
A detailed walkthrough of routing instruments to the mixer and using Fruity Parametric EQ 2 to clean up frequencies and sculpt sounds.
Step-by-step
- Open the Channel Rack
- Double-click on the channel selector to select instruments
- Press Control + L or go to Channel Options and select Assign selected to free mixer tracks
- Open the Mixer to view the color-coded tracks
- Adjust the Mixer view using the dropdown menu at the top (e.g., Large or Extra Large)
- Hold Shift and scroll to change the order of the mixer tracks
- Use the faders to adjust volume or the panning knobs to move sound between left and right channels
Options
- Change Mixer view to Large or Extra Large to see hidden buttons
- Swap left and right channels using the Swap button
- Adjust stereo separation to widen the sound or merge it toward mono
- Use Track Latency to delay instruments for a 'swing' effect
Watch out for
- Panning and volume knobs on the Mixer are independent of those on the Channel Rack; changing one does not move the other
- The Reverse Polarity button is generally not useful for beginners and can be ignored
- If using Extra Large view, some buttons may be hidden and require extending the window
Tips
- Color-code everything in the Channel Rack first to avoid a 'huge mess' in the Mixer
- Adjust instrument volume on the Channel level during production for a quicker workflow before fine-tuning in the Mixer
- Don't worry about highlighted latency icons on VST tracks; it is just FL Studio compensating for plugin delay
