Audio Recording and Editing in FL Studio

Demo summary
A walkthrough of configuring ASIO drivers, arming tracks for recording, and using the slice tool to edit recorded audio clips.
Step-by-step
- Go to Options and select Audio Settings.
- Choose an ASIO driver that matches your interface name.
- Click the Record button and select 'Audio into the playlist as an audio clip'.
- Select your microphone input from the available interface inputs.
- Click the Arm button on the track to enable recording.
- Use the Slice tool to cut out silent parts or preferred takes.
- Hover over the edge of a clip and drag the corner to apply ease-in or ease-out fades.
Options
- Use 'ASIO4ALL' or 'FL Studio ASIO' if your specific interface driver is missing.
- Set 'Monitor external input' to 'Off' to avoid hearing your own voice while recording.
- Toggle the metronome or countdown before recording for rhythmic accuracy.
- Use the Mute tool instead of deleting clips when selecting between multiple takes.
Watch out for
- You must have an ASIO driver installed; if none appear, download them from the official website.
- Keep the record function set to 'External input only' to avoid permanently baking effects or EQ into the recording.
- High latency can occur if too many effects are active; disable them or start a new project for recording if vocals are delayed.
Tips
- Always record several takes even if you think the first one was perfect.
- Slice and delete long silent parts in vocal tracks to prevent introducing unnecessary background noise.
- Apply small fades (ease in/out) at the edges of clips to prevent audible clicks.
