Fl Studio: Adding Space with Reverb and Delay

Demo summary

A demo of applying Fruity Reeverb 2 and Fruity Delay 3 to instruments to create depth and stereo width.

Step-by-step

  1. Open Fruity Reeverb 2 on the desired mixer track
  2. Increase the Size knob to the highest amount or adjust to taste
  3. Increase the Low Cut knob to approximately 700 Hz to prevent reverb on low frequencies
  4. Set the Decay time based on the instrument, aiming for 1.5 seconds or shorter for percussion
  5. Adjust the Wet fader from zero until the effect is subtly present in the mix
  6. Pan layered instruments or percussions slightly left or right (around 10%) to create stereo width

Options

  • Use a single Mix knob instead of separate Dry/Wet faders if using third-party plugins
  • Experiment with smaller room sizes when using very short Decay times
  • Pan opposing elements (e.g., shakers left, hats right) to balance the soundscape

Watch out for

  • Low frequencies are vulnerable; always keep the low area of the reverb minimal and controlled
  • Check if samples are already processed or panned before applying manual panning to avoid overwhelming one channel
  • Remove built-in reverb from synthesizers like Serum or Vital before applying external reverb for better control

Tips

  • Keep reverb minimal so it creates a 'feeling' of a room rather than an obvious echo
  • Choosing better quality samples creates better mixes immediately because they require less manual correction
  • For beginners, avoid over-processing samples that are already layered and panned

Highlights

mixing is really an in-depth process but I hope you're learning a lot
