Klaviyo: Setting up a Dedicated Sending Domain and DMARC

Demo summary
Step-by-step guide on adding NS and TXT records to DNS settings (Squarespace/Google Domains) to verify a branded sending domain in Klaviyo.
Step-by-step
- Go to Settings, select the Email tab, and click Domains.
- Click Add under Branded Sending Domain.
- Enter your root domain and set the sending subdomain (default is 'send').
- Select your DNS provider (e.g., Google Domains, GoDaddy) and click Next.
- Log into your DNS provider and add the four provided NS records using 'send' as the host.
- Add the provided TXT record using '@' as the host.
- Return to Klaviyo, check the acknowledgment box regarding engagement limiting, and click Activate.
- Add a DMARC TXT record to your DNS with the host '_dmarc'.
Options
- Change the default 'send' subdomain to a custom value
- Use a DMARC record generator to create a custom policy string
Watch out for
- A dedicated sending domain and DMARC record are mandatory for 2024 Google sender requirements.
- Verification can take a few moments to move from 'In progress' to 'Active'.
Tips
- Keep the sending subdomain as 'send' (e.g., send.yourdomain.com).
- Start with a DMARC policy of 'none' (reporting mode) when first setting it up.
- Use a separate inbox specifically for receiving DMARC aggregate and forensic reports.
