Step-by-step

Open Fruity Parametric EQ 2 on your instrument track
Right-click the solo button to isolate the instrument and visualize its frequency range
Select a frequency point and drag it down to reduce the volume of that specific range
Change the steepness of the curve by adjusting the filter order (e.g., Steep 8)
Move the EQ plugin before other effects like delay in the signal chain if necessary

Options

Change the steepness of the filter curve
Adjust the order of effects in the mixer chain

Watch out for

Too many instruments covering the same base frequencies will cause clashing or a muddy sound

Tips

Give each instrument its own space in the frequency spectrum to prevent sounds from fighting for space
Use a high-pass filter on melodic instruments like pianos or choirs if you plan to add a sub-bass or 808 later
