Create a lead-capture landing page in Mailchimp

Demo summary
The video demonstrates how to select a landing page template, use the drag-and-drop editor to change background images and text, add form fields like 'First Name', and publish the page.
Step-by-step
- Click on the Forms button in the left sidebar
- Select Create landing page and enter a descriptive name
- Choose a template, such as the lead gen template
- Click Style then Header to replace the background image and adjust the overlay transparency
- Edit the text blocks directly in the editor to update headers and descriptions
- Click on the form block to add fields like First Name and mark them as required
- Update the confirmation message at the bottom of the form settings
- Click Preview to check desktop and mobile views, then click Publish
Options
- Create a popup form instead of a standalone landing page
- Connect a custom domain or use a generated Mailchimp domain
- Customize social sharing appearance for X, Facebook, or LinkedIn
- Adjust mobile-specific font size and line spacing under Mobile Styles
Watch out for
- On the free plan, you are limited to one audience and a random Mailchimp domain URL
- The landing page editor has very limited control over mobile appearance compared to desktop
- Merge tags for personalizing emails with first names require a Standard plan or higher
Tips
- Make the landing page name descriptive as it appears in the web page title
- Use a black color overlay with adjusted transparency to make text readable over background images
- Keep form fields to a minimum; asking for just an email and first name is a good compromise for conversion
- If you already have a website, use popup forms instead of landing pages for better design control
