Fl Studio: Creating and editing Automation Clips

Demo summary

Demonstration of right-clicking a knob to create an automation clip in the Playlist and drawing points to automate a filter sweep in real-time.

Step-by-step

  1. Select the knob or parameter you wish to automate
  2. Right-click the knob and select Create automation clip
  3. Locate the automation clip in the Playlist
  4. Right-click on the clip line to create new points
  5. Drag points up or down to control the parameter value over time
  6. For third-party plugins, wiggle the desired knob first, then right-click the Multilink to controllers icon in the top toolbar to create the clip

Options

  • Automate native FL Studio knobs
  • Automate third-party plugin parameters (e.g., Vital, Labs)
  • Automate effect parameters like EQ bands or mix knobs
  • Automate mixer track panning

Watch out for

  • Third-party plugins require you to wiggle the knob first so the software knows which parameter to target
  • Automating EQ peaks can cause unpleasant volume spikes if moved too aggressively

Tips

  • Use automation to control multiple parameters simultaneously for complex sound design
  • Watch the parameter knob in the plugin window while the song plays to verify the automation is moving as intended

Highlights

FL Studio native knobs you can just right click and create an automation instantly just like that
