Fl Studio: Creating a chord progression

Demo summary
A step-by-step walkthrough of building a C-major chord progression by placing notes in the Piano Roll and using octave shifts to thicken the sound.
Step-by-step
- Place a note in the Piano Roll and drag its right edge to set the desired length.
- Click the note to save its length into memory for subsequent note placements.
- Place notes on the lighter highlighted rows to ensure they stay within the AI-detected key.
- Hold Control and click-drag to select all notes in the baseline.
- Hold Control and press the Down Arrow key to shift the selected notes one octave lower.
- Press Control + C and Control + V to duplicate the baseline.
- Drag the duplicated notes over the original notes and press Control + Up Arrow to layer them an octave higher.
- Right-click anywhere in the Piano Roll to deselect the notes.
Options
- Increase the instrument volume by adjusting the 'V' slider in the Channel Rack/Labs settings.
Watch out for
- The Piano Roll must be in 'Pattern' mode to play back the specific sequence you are building.
Tips
- Stick to placing notes in the lighter highlighted areas if you don't know music theory; these are the notes FL Studio's AI suggests will sound good together.
- Tweak one note at a time and listen repeatedly rather than making many changes at once to avoid getting lost.
- Don't be afraid to change your initial progression as you experiment with new ideas.
Highlights
“the way to make chords is super simple just Place one note after next and make sure that they all sound good that's it”
