Fl Studio: EQ processing with Fruity Parametric EQ 2

Demo summary
A live demonstration of using a high-pass filter in Fruity Parametric EQ 2 to remove low-end muddiness from a melodic track.
Step-by-step
- Select the specific mixer track containing the audio you want to process
- Click an empty effect slot on the right side of the mixer
- Select Fruity Parametric EQ 2 from the effects list
- Right-click the band '1' node and select 'Type', then choose 'High Pass'
- Right-click the band '1' node again, select 'Order', and choose 'Steep 8'
- Drag the node to the right to filter out the low frequencies
- Toggle the effect slot checkbox to A/B test the difference
Options
- Boost high-end frequencies by lifting the nodes on the right side of the EQ
- Adjust the steepness of the filter via the Order menu
Watch out for
- Ensure the correct mixer track is highlighted before adding the EQ, otherwise the effect will be applied to the wrong sound
Tips
- Remove low frequencies from melodic tracks to prevent them from fighting for space with your 808 or bass
- Think of frequencies like kids in a classroom; if everyone tries to be loud at once, you can't hear anything clearly
- Cut what is not needed in the mix rather than just turning everything up to make it sound tight and punchy
- Use high-pass filters to remove 'low rumbling' that makes a mix sound muddy or unpleasant
Highlights
“it makes a world of difference like just that tiny little shift... we're changing the the tonality of the entire song”
