Klaviyo: Configuring a Post-Purchase automation

Demo summary

Demonstrates setting up a post-purchase flow in Klaviyo with an order count split to differentiate between first-time and returning customers.

Step-by-step

  1. Go to Flows in the left menu and click Create Flow
  2. Select the Post Purchase Follow-up Order Count Split template
  3. Name the flow and click Use Template
  4. Configure trigger filters to ensure 'Placed Order' and 'Cancelled Order' are zero times since starting the flow
  5. Set the initial delay to 10 minutes
  6. Add a conditional split for 'Has Placed Order equals 1 overall time'
  7. Turn off Smart Sending for every email in the flow

Options

  • Add additional splits for higher order counts (e.g., 2 or 3+ purchases)
  • Use the default Klaviyo post-purchase templates

Watch out for

  • Smart Sending must be disabled or customers who recently received a sales email will miss these transactional updates

Tips

  • Wait only 10 minutes before sending the first email rather than a full day
  • Keep the first email as a super simple and basic thank you message
  • Ensure every single email in this specific flow has Smart Sending turned off to guarantee delivery after a purchase

Highlights

it's pretty simple
