After Effects: Animating position with keyframes

Demo summary
A demonstration of setting start and end keyframes for the position property to create a vertical movement animation for a shape.
Step-by-step
- Drag the playhead to the start of the timeline
- Click the stopwatch icon next to the Position property to enable keyframing
- Adjust the shape's position in the composition view to set the initial value
- Move the playhead to a later point in time (e.g., 5 seconds)
- Change the position value of the shape to create a second keyframe
- Move the playhead further ahead and manually enter a previous coordinate value to return the shape to its original position
- Drag keyframes closer together or further apart on the timeline to adjust the speed of the movement
Options
- Animate rotation or size instead of position
- Change values by dragging the shape in the composition view or by typing specific coordinates
Watch out for
- The stopwatch button must be toggled on to start creating keyframes
Tips
- Bringing keyframes closer to each other makes the animation move quicker
- Increasing the space between keyframes results in a slower animation
