After Effects: Animate scrolling text with Loop Out Offset

Demo summary

A demonstration of using guides for precision, parenting text to a null, and applying the 'loopOut("offset")' expression to create a continuous scrolling list.

Step-by-step

  1. Show rulers and drag guides to surround the top and bottom of the title
  2. Duplicate the text and position it up by a consistent increment, such as 100 points
  3. Repeat the duplication and positioning to create a long list of titles
  4. Create a null object and parent all text layers to it
  5. Add a position keyframe for the null object
  6. Move forward one frame and adjust the position until the next title aligns perfectly within the guides
  7. Move forward a few more frames and add a final keyframe
  8. Alt-click the position stopwatch and enter the loopOut("offset") expression

Options

  • Use the Fill effect to change text colors

Watch out for

  • Each duplicate title must be positioned by the exact same numerical increment to ensure the loop is seamless

Tips

  • Use guides for mathematical precision when aligning text
  • Parent everything to a null object to control the entire list's movement from one layer

Highlights

will continue the animation perfectly forever. Just awesome.
