Cubase 15: Create folder tracks with group channel capabilities in Cubase

Demo summary

Dom demonstrates how to select multiple tracks, right-click to move them into a new folder with a group channel, and manage the resulting summing bus with inserts, EQ, and automation in Cubase 15.0.20.

Step-by-step

  1. Select multiple audio tracks in the project window.
  2. Right-click the selected tracks and choose 'Move selected tracks to new folder with group channel'.
  3. Rename the new folder/group track to identify the bus.
  4. Open the track settings to apply inserts, EQ, or pre-gain to the entire group.
  5. Click the folder icon in the MixConsole to collapse the individual channels and view only the summing bus fader.
  6. Drag and drop additional tracks into the folder to automatically update their routing to the group bus.

Options

  • Assign a keyboard shortcut to 'Move selected tracks to new folder with group channel' for faster access.
  • Disable the setting for tracks to automatically inherit the folder's color if preferred.

Watch out for

  • The folder track now acts as a summing bus, meaning it carries audio and functions as a group channel under the hood.

Tips

  • Use this feature for multi-track drum recordings to hide 15+ microphones and manage only the drum bus for a cleaner MixConsole.
  • Perform volume automation directly on the folder track to control the entire group's level simultaneously.
  • Command-click to change the folder color; this helps visually organize the project as all contained tracks will inherit that color.

Highlights

This is a huge ergonomic feature... this is going to be such a huge time-saver because you can say, 'You know what? I don't want to see all of them right now.'
