Step-by-step

  1. Increase the Saturation slider to the desired intensity
  2. Select the Radial Gradient tool from the masking options
  3. Click and hold the mouse in the center of the subject to place the mask
  4. Drag the mouse to adjust the size of the circle
  5. Use the handles on the outside of the tool to reshape the circle into an ellipse
  6. Click outside the mask and drag to rotate the ellipse
  7. Release the mouse to apply the tapered effect

Options

  • Use the Brush tool instead of the Radial Gradient to paint in the effect

Tips

  • Use the Radial Gradient to create a fall-off from maximum intensity to a soft taper to draw the viewer's attention
  • Apply a high saturation boost first, then use the mask to restrict it to specific areas
