Luminar Neo: Color grading with LUTs and Dramatic filter

Demo summary

The video shows the application of the Dramatic filter and various Lookup Tables (LUTs) like 'Long Beach' to unify the photo's color palette.

Step-by-step

  1. Open the Dramatic filter tool.
  2. Lower the local contrast and adjust brightness to your preference.
  3. Reset saturation to a neutral point and blend the effect in slightly.
  4. Navigate to the Mood tool to access Lookup Tables (LUTs).
  5. Hover over different LUTs like 'Santa Barbara' or 'Long Beach' to preview the look.
  6. Adjust the Contrast and Saturation sliders to modify how the LUT interacts with the underlying photo.
  7. Set the Amount slider to a high value to visualize changes, then dial it back to around 25% to 'tease' the effect in.

Options

  • Use 'Santa Barbara' LUT for more 'pop'
  • Use 'Long Beach' LUT for a unifying color wash
  • Increase saturation to recover original greens and blues
  • Decrease saturation to emphasize the LUT mood

Tips

  • Don't use the Dramatic filter 'straight out of the box' as it can look weird; drop the local contrast first.
  • Set the LUT amount to 100% temporarily to clearly see what the contrast and saturation adjustments are doing before finalizing the blend.
  • Aim for a lower amount (around 25%) for a more professional, subtle unifying color wash.

Highlights

These are a fantastic way with just one click to add a look to your photo.
