Surgical click removal with iZotope RX De-click

Demo summary
The demonstrator shows how to use the De-click module as a 'sniper rifle' to surgically remove specific ticks from a lavalier mic recording without softening consonants.
Step-by-step
- Send the audio file to RX Connect
- Visually identify clicks and pops in the spectrogram
- Highlight only the specific click or pop rather than the entire file
- Open the De-click module
- Set the algorithm to Multiband
- Increase Sensitivity and Click Widening to high levels for surgical removal
- Apply the process using a keyboard shortcut to 'zap' the noise
Options
- Use De-crackle for stretches with high-density clicks instead of individual removal
- Skew De-click settings toward high frequencies for specific lavalier mic ticks
Watch out for
- Do not highlight and process the entire file (Command+A), as it can soften consonants like K, S, and T
- Avoid using Mouth De-click as it frequently reduces the clarity of consonants
Tips
- Assign the De-click module to a keyboard shortcut (e.g., '1') for faster workflow
- Keep De-crackle strength settings conservative (never higher than 3) with Amplitude Skew at -10
- Set De-crackle quality to High to maintain audio integrity
- Use the tool like a 'sniper rifle' by being precise with selections to maintain speech clarity
Highlights
“this is how you surgically remove clicks... I'm going to zap them out with a keyboard shortcut.”
