Kit: Connecting a custom domain

Demo summary

Walks through adding a subdomain in ConvertKit and configuring the corresponding DNS A-records in a domain registrar (Hostinger).

Step-by-step

  1. Go to Settings and click on Domains
  2. Click Connect an existing domain
  3. Enter your domain name using a subdomain prefix like 'go' or 'success'
  4. Select your homepage landing page and click Next
  5. Log into your domain registrar and locate the DNS record management section
  6. Add three separate A records using your subdomain as the Host and the IP addresses provided by Kit
  7. Return to Kit and click Validate
  8. Go to your landing page settings and select the new custom domain from the dropdown

Options

  • Buy a new domain directly through Kit's integrated provider
  • Edit the default Kit domain (e.g., username.ck.page)

Watch out for

  • Do not use your root domain if you already have an existing website as it will break your site
  • Do not use 'www' as your subdomain if it is already in use for your main website
  • DNS propagation can take up to 48 hours to complete globally
  • You may see a security/privacy warning immediately after publishing; wait for the SSL to provision

Tips

  • Buy a brand new domain exclusively for use with Kit to avoid technical conflicts
  • Use a subdomain like 'go.yourdomain.com' to keep your main site safe
  • Contact your registrar's support if you cannot locate the DNS or Name Server settings
  • Check the domain status by closing the validation window and refreshing the domain list

Highlights
