Step-by-step

Click anywhere inside the waveform to move the playhead to that specific point
Press Record to begin capturing audio from the playhead's current position
Go to the File menu and select Create a new audio file to start a separate recording
Name the new file and press Record to generate a new waveform
Press the Space bar to stop the recording
Locate the project panel to see the list of all recordings
Double-click a recording name in the panel to switch the view to that specific waveform

Options

Switch between recordings using the file list panel or the top tab interface

Watch out for

Pressing record while a waveform is already present will overwrite the existing audio from that point forward
Clicking the waveform icon again will not create a new file; you must use the File menu

Tips

Use the blue highlighting in the project panel to identify which recording is currently active
