DaVinci Resolve: Adding background music and audio fades

Demo summary

The user shows how to add a music track, lower its volume relative to dialogue, and use the fade handles to create a smooth exit.

Step-by-step

  1. Drag and drop the music file into the DaVinci Resolve media pool
  2. Drag the audio track from the media pool onto the timeline
  3. Click and drag the white line on the audio track downward to lower the volume
  4. Click and drag the edges of the audio track to shorten the clip
  5. Hover over the end of the track to locate the white fade icon
  6. Click and drag the white icon inward to create a fade-out curve

Tips

  • Keep music levels between -25 and -30 dB so vocals remain the dominant audio track
  • Use a fade-out if you are cutting the music track off before the actual song ends
  • Drag the fade curve further across the clip to create a longer, more natural transition

Highlights

You can still hear the music, but it's not overpowering my voice.
