Clipchamp: Layering videos and picture-in-picture effects

Demo summary

The user demonstrates stacking video clips on different layers to create a picture-in-picture effect, adjusting transparency, and cropping specific areas.

Step-by-step

  1. Drag a video clip onto the timeline and place it on a layer above another clip
  2. Select the top clip to highlight it with a purple outline
  3. Click and drag the corners of the video in the preview window to resize it
  4. Reposition the resized clip to create a picture-in-picture effect
  5. Navigate to the Adjust Colors tab in the side menu
  6. Drag the transparency slider to make the selected clip see-through
  7. Click the Crop tool to select and focus on a specific area of the video frame

Options

  • Stack multiple layers of video to have more than two clips playing simultaneously
  • Apply green screen effects using the layering system

Watch out for

  • The top layer will completely cover all video layers below it unless it is resized, cropped, or made transparent
  • Audio from lower layers will still play even if the video is obscured by a top layer

Tips

  • Use the transparency mode if you want one video to be see-through over another
  • Crop specific areas of a clip, such as focusing on a subject like a pet, to remove unnecessary background before resizing

Highlights

it's an important thing to be able to understand the layers when you're working with it
