DaVinci Resolve: Animating titles with keyframes

Demo summary

Casey demonstrates how to create a text title and use keyframe diamonds in the Inspector to animate its position over time.

Step-by-step

  1. Select the title clip in the timeline
  2. Open the Inspector and switch to the Settings tab
  3. Move the playhead to the desired end time and click the diamond icon next to Position to set a keyframe
  4. Move the playhead to the start of the clip and adjust the Position values to set a second keyframe
  5. Click the diamond icon on the clip in the timeline to open the keyframes panel
  6. Drag the keyframe diamonds closer together to increase the animation speed
  7. Click the curves icon to open the graph view
  8. Select the final keyframe and click the flatten handles button to apply easing

Options

  • Adjust individual X and Y position keyframes separately
  • Move the entire Transform group of keyframes simultaneously
  • Open a secondary keyframe panel in the media pool area for a larger graph view

Watch out for

  • The 'greater than' arrow indicator means a keyframe exists further down the track
  • Linear keyframes without easing can cause the animation to jerk to a stop

Tips

  • Push keyframes closer together to make an animation go faster
  • Use easing (flattening handles) on the final keyframe so the movement slows down naturally before stopping
  • Adjusting a property at a new time automatically creates a new keyframe if the diamond is active (red)

Highlights

that's generally how you'll animate stuff in Resolve... that same kind of way of animating things by setting a key frame and adjusting the distance between the two key frames.
