CapCut: Create the Spotify scroll effect

Demo summary
Shows how to blend a screen recording of a music app with a video of a person using the 'Splice' and 'Lighten' tools, plus masking for a gradient fade.
Step-by-step
- Import two videos: one of yourself scrolling and one screen recording of the app.
- Select the screen recording clip and tap Overlay to move it on top of the main video.
- Crop and zoom the overlay to fit the desired area.
- Select the overlay and go to Splice, then choose Lighten.
- Align the timing of the scrolls in both clips so they match.
- Go to Transform and select Mirror to flip the perspective of the overlay.
- Select Mask, choose Mirror, and drag the arrows to create a gradient fade effect.
Options
- Use the Filter splice option instead of Lighten if the app uses light mode (like Instagram).
- Experiment with different splice modes depending on the app's background color.
Watch out for
- You must film two separate videos: a screen recording and a video of yourself scrolling nothing.
Tips
- Ideally, line up the pace of your physical scroll to match the pace of the screen recording scroll.
- Mirror the overlay to make it look more realistic, as if it is from your perspective.
- Use the mask tool to add a gradient fade for a more dynamic look.
