Applying a limiter in Audacity

Demo summary

The narrator adds a limiter effect to a track and configures the threshold to -1dB to prevent audio clipping during playback.

Step-by-step

  1. Go to Add Effect
  2. Select Audacity and then Limiter
  3. Set the Threshold to -1.0 dB
  4. Leave Makeup Target at 0.0 dB
  5. Keep the default settings for Knee Width and Smoothing
  6. Play back the audio to verify the limiter is catching peaks

Tips

  • Use a limiter to ensure no audio goes above -1 dB to prevent it from getting too loud
  • A limiter is a good way to smooth the top of your audio off

Highlights

it works very similar to the compression
