Non-destructive editing and clip dragging in Audacity

Demo summary
The narrator demonstrates how to use the new clip handle bar to drag audio segments and how to recover deleted sections using the non-destructive trim tool.
Step-by-step
- Click and hold the bar at the top of the audio clip to move it across the timeline
- Press Control+I (or Command+I) to split a clip at the playhead
- Highlight multiple clips to move them as a group
- Hover over the edge of a clip until the square bracket icon appears
- Click and drag the clip edge outward to recover previously deleted audio sections
- Drag clips close to each other to trigger the automatic snapping feature
Watch out for
- You must highlight all relevant clips before moving them to maintain their relative spacing
Tips
- Use the split tool instead of deleting sections to maintain more flexibility during a podcast edit
- Utilize the top handle bar for moving audio rather than the old method of cutting and pasting highlighted sections
Highlights
“This makes editing a lot faster and it brings it more in line with similar tools like full digital audio workstations”
