Fabfilter Pro-Q 3: Frequency Collision Detection

Step-by-step

  1. Hover over the track pin icon in the bottom bar
  2. Click the button to the left of the track pin to set the specific track as the collision reference
  3. Identify the red glowing areas in the frequency display indicating masking
  4. Open the Pro-Q instance on the subgroup or clashing track
  5. Apply a high-pass filter to the clashing frequencies to resolve the masking

Options

  • Override the default collision reference by choosing a different one from the Instance List

Watch out for

  • The instance of Pro-Q 4 you have open will be the default collision reference unless manually overridden

Tips

  • Work smarter by dealing with frequency clashes on a subgroup level rather than individual tracks
  • Use a high-pass filter to tighten up the low end of guitars to let the bass dominate those frequencies
