RipX: Analyzing basslines and using the metronome

RipXTry it →Watch full video →Song Design ·

Demo summary

The user imports a second track to isolate the bassline, demonstrates selecting specific notes to loop for practice, and enables the built-in metronome for playing along.

Step-by-step

  1. Click File then Open to import your track
  2. Use Control and the mouse scroll wheel to zoom out on the track view
  3. Solo specific instrument layers like drums or piano to isolate them
  4. Click on a group of notes to select them for repeated playback
  5. Enable the Metronome button to play along with the track
  6. Adjust the volume sliders for individual instrument layers or the metronome to create a custom practice mix

Options

  • Solo multiple tracks simultaneously (e.g., all drum-related tracks) to hear them together
  • Use the Home key to return to the beginning of the track

Watch out for

  • The AI separation is not an exact science and may misidentify instruments, such as labeling acoustic guitar remnants as piano
  • The software may not separate different types of the same instrument, such as acoustic and electric guitars, into different layers

Tips

  • If you want to hear all the drums, solo all three drum-related tracks (percussion, drums, and kick) together
  • Use the note labels (e.g., D, E) provided by the software to write down and learn the exact bassline
  • Lower the volume of other instruments while keeping the bass and metronome high to focus on learning a specific part

Highlights

if you're wanting to know the baseline and get familiar with it, this is the way to go.
