Adobe Audition: Creating design elements with Object Mask

Demo summary

The creator demonstrates duplicating a shot and using the Object Mask on the opacity channel to roto a subject out, then adding stylized shadows and text behind them.

Step-by-step

  1. Duplicate the shot in the timeline.
  2. Move the Object Mask to the opacity channel to rotoscope the subject.
  3. Place the rotoscoped shot into a nest.
  4. Apply a long shadow and a channel mixer to the nested clip to add style and color.
  5. Duplicate the shot again and remove the shadow/color effects to create a black outline layer on top.
  6. Change the color of the bottom clip to blue.
  7. Insert text layers above the background layer but below the subject layers.
  8. Apply a final color grade to the entire sequence.

Tips

  • Use the Object Mask on the opacity channel for a fast way to rotoscope subjects out of a scene.
  • Nest the rotoscoped shot before adding stylized effects like shadows to keep the workflow organized.

Highlights

And we got there so fast. And again, look at how solid the tracking is.
