Step-by-step

  1. Select the second clip in the timeline
  2. Go to Video Scale and increase the size slightly
  3. Click the three lines icon and select Guides and Rulers
  4. Create a horizontal guide
  5. Drag the blue guide line directly over the subject's eyes in the first clip
  6. Select the second clip and drag the video frame down until the eyes align with the guide
  7. Return to Guides and Rulers and select Clear Guides to remove the line

  • Zoom into the player window for a clearer view when placing the guide

Tips

  • Align eyelines across cuts to prevent the viewer's eyes from jumping up and down
  • Reset the player window size after alignment to check the final flow of the jump cut
