Demo summary

The creator shows how to use the frequency spectrum to identify peaks, drag down multiple bands, and convert them into dynamic EQ nodes to clean up a vocal without losing its life.

Step-by-step

  1. Play the audio and click and hold on the frequency spectrum to activate the blue frequency analyzer.
  2. Identify and drag down the specific frequency peaks that are poking out during playback.
  3. Select all the newly created bands.
  4. Hold Command and click the gain button to reset all selected bands to zero.
  5. Right-click the bands and select Make Dynamic.
  6. Pull the dynamic range rings down to approximately -6 to start.
  7. Use the headphone icon to solo individual bands and verify the frequency removal.
  8. Adjust the dynamic range of specific bands to ensure the vocal doesn't lose its life.

Options

  • Solo out specific bands using the headphone icon to audition the frequency

Watch out for

  • Be careful not to over-compress or remove too much, as you can make the vocal sound cleaner but lose its natural life.

Tips

  • Start with a dynamic range of -6 and work from there.
  • If a frequency sounds too processed, bring back the dynamics so you aren't compressing it as much.

Highlights

it's cleaning it up but it's not taking it
