Check loudness with Youlean Loudness Meter

Demo summary

The presenter uses the Youlean Loudness Meter to analyze integrated LUFS and true peak values, then demonstrates a 'headroom reset' by lowering track volumes.

Step-by-step

  1. Open the Youlean Loudness Meter plugin
  2. Check the Integrated LUFS value to determine the average loudness of the mix
  3. Check the True Peak Max value to see where transients are peaking
  4. Select every track in your project
  5. Lower the volume of all tracks simultaneously by approximately 8 dBs to create headroom

Watch out for

  • True Peak Max should be under zero to avoid clipping
  • Integrated LUFS for a pop-leaning master track should ideally be between -9.5 and -6

Tips

  • Don't worry if the technical data seems like algebra; it is simpler than it looks
  • If your levels are peaking poorly, the easiest fix is to simply turn everything down before mixing

Highlights

I promise this is not that hard... if you see something like this, don't worry, it's pretty easy to fix.
