DaVinci Resolve: Generate custom LUTs from reference images

Demo summary

The Higgsfield LUT generator is shown creating a color grading preset for a clip by analyzing a reference still from the movie 'The Joker'.

Step-by-step

  1. Import the video clip you want to grade into DaVinci Resolve.
  2. Open the Higgsfield LUT generator tool.
  3. Upload a reference image to define the desired color grade.
  4. Click Generate to create the custom LUT.
  5. Locate the new Higgsfield folder in the LUT library.
  6. Drag and drop the generated LUT onto a specific node in the color grading structure.
  7. Adjust the node strength to fine-tune the intensity of the look.

Watch out for

  • The initial generated result may be too strong and require manual backing off.
  • The tool may not automatically indicate which node in a complex structure it is applied to if not manually placed.

Tips

  • Use high-quality stills from professional films like 'The Joker' as reference images for better results.
  • Reset the color grading structure if you lose track of where the LUT was applied.
  • Adjust the node strength rather than the LUT itself to achieve a more reasonable look.

Highlights

This is crazy. It's given us the LUT, but it also explains everything that it's done
