Topaz Video AI: Upscale low-resolution video with Nyx model

Step-by-step

1. Go to Output Resolution and select the 4x Upscale preset.
2. Set Video Type to Progressive.
3. Select Nyx from the AI model list.
4. Set Recover Detail to 0 to remove all original compression artifacts.
5. Choose the standard Nyx model variant instead of Nyx Fast.
6. Enable Parameters and switch to the Manual tab.
7. Click Estimate to allow the tool to analyze frames and suggest settings.
8. Click the carrot icon next to Render to select a preview range and render the In-and-Out points.

Options

• Change Pixel Type to Square pixel instead of Original.
• Use Nyx Fast for quicker processing if subtle artifacts are acceptable.
• Use Dynamic mode to apply modifications on top of Auto settings.
• Double-click any slider knob to reset it to the default value.

Watch out for

• The Nyx model is specifically intended for footage with compression artifacts, such as older films or VHS tapes.

Tips

• Set Recover Detail to 0 if you want to ensure no original artifacts or compression issues remain in the upscale.
• Use the Estimate feature to see what settings the AI recommends based on a few frames of your specific footage.
• Stick to the regular Nyx model over Nyx Fast if processing speed is not a major concern, as the quality difference is worth the minor time increase.
