CapCut: Adding and trimming B-roll on the timeline

Demo summary

The demonstration shows how to select specific portions of B-roll clips, drag them to a second layer, and rotate them using the video transform tools.

Step-by-step

  1. Locate the desired B-roll clip in your media folders.
  2. Drag the markers on the left and right sides of the clip thumbnail to highlight only the specific section you want to use.
  3. Click and drag the highlighted section onto the second layer of the timeline.
  4. Align the clip with the corresponding audio in the primary track.
  5. Trim the edges of the clip on the timeline for precise timing.
  6. Select the clip and go to the Video tab to adjust the rotation if necessary.
  7. Navigate to the Adjustment tab to apply a LUT for color correction.

Options

  • Type '180' into the rotation field to flip overhead footage right-side up
  • Apply a Rec 709 LUT to match color across clips

Watch out for

  • The highest layer on the timeline always takes visual precedence over lower layers.

Tips

  • Keep the bottom layer dedicated solely to the talking portion of the video to avoid disrupting the rough edit.
  • Select only the 'best portion' of a clip before bringing it to the timeline to keep the process efficient.
