Configure Auphonic RMS leveling preset

Demo summary
The user walks through the Auphonic web interface to create a preset, setting the loudness target to -20dB RMS and the peak level to -3dB for ACX standards.
Step-by-step
- Log in to Auphonic and click on Presets.
- Click the New Preset button or select an existing one to edit.
- Enter a name for the preset and input any desired metadata like title or author.
- Set the output format to MP3 with a constant bit rate of at least 192 kbps.
- Enable the Adaptive Leveler to ensure consistent audio peaks.
- Under Loudness Normalization, set the Loudness Target to RMS and input -20dB.
- Set the Peak Level to -3dB.
- Adjust Noise Reduction (e.g., -3dB) and click Save.
Options
- Add intro and outro files via URL
- Add tags or extended metadata
- Split chapters automatically
- Toggle speech recognition or publishing to external services
- Enable filtering or reverb removal
Watch out for
- ACX requires files to be either all mono or all stereo; you cannot mix both in the same audiobook.
- ACX requires a bit rate of 192 kbps or higher.
- Do not use variable bit rate (VBR) for ACX; it must be constant bit rate.
Tips
- Use a free account to level up to two hours of audio per month.
- Leave the Adaptive Leveler on to bring high and low peaks closer together for consistency.
- Set noise reduction to -3dB even if your noise floor is already good to provide a slight cleanup.
