Step-by-step
- Select the music track in the timeline
- Open the Essential Sound panel
- Enable the Ducking option
- Select the Dialogue icon to duck against
- Adjust the Sensitivity, Duck Amount, Fade Duration, and Fade Position sliders
- Click Generate Keyframes to apply the volume changes
- Review the audio and click Generate Keyframes again to overwrite with new settings if needed
Options
- Adjust Duck Amount to control decibel reduction
- Modify Fade Duration for longer or shorter transitions
- Change Sensitivity to control how silence in dialogue is handled
Watch out for
- Generating new keyframes ignores and overwrites previous ducking settings
- The tool may occasionally create keyframes in sections where they are not desired
Tips
- Press the backslash key to see the entire project timeline
- If the music ramps up too quickly during short silences, decrease the Sensitivity setting
- Adjust the overall clip volume after ducking to ensure the balance is correct
