DaVinci Resolve: Object removal using Fusion nodes

Demo summary

The video shows a manual masking workflow in the Fusion page using a Polygon node and shape animation connected to an Object Removal node to erase a vehicle.

Step-by-step

  1. Navigate to the Fusion page and select the clip.
  2. Go to the last frame where the object is visible.
  3. Select the Polygon node and draw a rough mask around the object.
  4. Enable shape animation and adjust the mask points across the timeline to track the object's movement.
  5. Press Shift + Spacebar, search for 'Object Removal', and add it to the flow line.
  6. Connect the output of the Polygon mask to the green input of the Object Removal node.
  7. Set the Object Removal mode to 'Adaptive' and click 'Scene Analysis'.

Watch out for

  • Masking must be done manually in the Fusion page rather than using Power Windows from the Color page.

Tips

  • Ensure the object remains entirely within the boundaries of the mask throughout the clip.
  • Use the right-click shape animation feature to automatically keyframe mask adjustments.

Highlights

Did the analysis that quick. And just like that, it's out.
