Gigapixel: Adjusting model settings and sharpening

Demo summary

The user walks through the model settings in Topaz Gigapixel AI, demonstrating how to adjust sharpening sliders and explaining when to use denoise, compression fix, and face recovery.

Step-by-step

  1. Set magnification to 100% to view the image at actual size.
  2. Select the desired AI model from the list.
  3. Navigate to the Model Settings section.
  4. Adjust the Sharpen slider while monitoring the sharpest areas of the image like eyes or whiskers.
  5. Click and hold the preview window to compare the original image against the current settings.
  6. Toggle Face Recovery if the image contains small or distorted background faces.

Options

  • Adjust Denoise to remove unwanted grain.
  • Use Fix Compression to remove visible artifacts.
  • Enable Gamma Correction if needed.

Watch out for

  • Do not push sliders for Denoise or Compression if those problems don't exist in the image, as it will degrade image quality.
  • Selective sharpening of specific areas is not possible in this software; settings apply to the whole image.

Tips

  • Look at the areas already in focus to determine if more sharpening is actually necessary.
  • Avoid high sharpening levels on AI-generated images as they are often sharp enough and can quickly look 'crunchy'.
  • Use Face Recovery specifically for smaller faces in the background rather than clear, close-up subjects.
  • A little goes a long way with sharpening; avoid being too aggressive.
